Welcome

Welcome

Dear Parents,

Think back over your education – the schools and teachers you’ve worked with throughout your life. Few decisions in a child’s life have the potentially long-lasting effect as the choice of where to attend school. This choice can have a huge impact on the success of a child’s educational journey, as well as the direction of their post-secondary education and ultimately his/her life. Here at Garden Street Academy, every aspect of the educational experience supports students in realizing their unique gifts and talents. Our focus is your child. Our structure to facilitate your child’s overall success is through programs in Arts, Sciences, Letters and Connections.

Consider the rich opportunities in the Arts, such as drama, music, fashion design, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. These vibrant features of our curriculum give voice to the expressive character of each and every student. By developing skills and techniques in the arts, our students build confidence in themselves and learn the value of the arts in both a historical and contemporary context.

In Sciences, our students engage in hands-on inquiry in areas as diverse as physics, chemistry, anatomy, and botany. Our emphasis is on meaningful and authentic fieldwork and laboratory analysis, making use of our local natural resources. Field trips to the ocean, creek and riparian habitats, as well as to local universities and the neighboring Natural History Museum, further enrich our understanding of scientific methods.

Literature, language, and social studies make up Letters, the cornerstone of our academics. We develop a program for the students that emphasizes the importance of a thorough knowledge and deep understanding of a variety of literary genres, multiple philosophical and religious perspectives, and the culture and skills associated with various foreign languages. To prepare students for a future that will require sensitivity to the past and attention to parallels within the present, a broad and rich experience in Letters will facilitate the students’ ability to respond to the intellectual demands of university and to life.

Connections, our final all-encompassing area of focus, refers to our goal to provide experiences that highlight the interconnectedness and interdependence of everything in our world.  We promote thinking at a deeper level, by drawing on a comparison of multiple disciplines and perspectives. We make visible the connections within and between subjects, both inside and outside of the formal environment of school. Through integrated projects, our interdisciplinary teams design and implement meaningful, challenging academic experiences for your child.

In the end, we are your partner in the education of your child. We strive to foster the development of the whole child – mind, body and spirit. Our goal is to develop an educational experience that builds on your child’s strengths and passions, while building up their areas for growth. Our success is measured by the development of happy, healthy, well-rounded, grounded and productive members of society, who leave us to make the world a better and more compassionate place for all its inhabitants.

Please accept my invitation to call and make an appointment for a tour and a meeting with our Director of Admissions.

Warm regards,

Mike Hagan
