Rock Shows
The Rock Shows provide an opportunity for students to perform songs they have worked on in their music classes. The shows take place in the Black Box Theater, an environment that acoustically resembles a real performance venue. Students can perform both cover songs and originals in front of an audience of up to 90 people. With theater lighting and professional modular platforms, the stage can be set for impressive presentation. Students who have formed bands can play, soloists can take the stage, and all or part of the music classes can present their chosen pieces. With a substantial sound system and professional mixing capabilities, the result of the students’ work is presented in premier form.
Field Day
In late May or early June, students gather into their “school families” for Field Day. They spend the afternoon participating in 8-10 various fun games that are run by their facilitators. Games in previous Field Days have included: water balloon launch, treasure hunt, oyster dive, gloves & candy, bucket brigade and three blind mice.
Winter Lights
Each December our school focuses on the sights and sounds of the season, bringing together cultures and religions from around the world. The various grade levels become experts in one of five major religions of the world and then shares their knowledge with each other and guests during our annual celebration. The night mixes song, dance and exposition student art projects.
Spring into the Arts
This event showcases students’ work and artistic growth from throughout the year. Visual art pieces are selected by students and displayed so the parents and guests can view after the live performances. The performances range in variety: choir, dance, rock band and involve multi-age groups as well as single class presentations.
Theatre Productions
Each year Garden Street Academy produces four theater productions complete with sets, props and costumes. Our goal is always to provide students with an opportunity to be involved in all aspects of a theatrical production. Students can choose from designing and building sets, props, or costumes to learning the craft of being an actor or backstage hand. Our Black Box Theatre features professional lights, sound and staging equipment.
