The K/1 class studied a science unit on Trees this fall. They observed and compared trees on campus and identified the parts of a tree, learned the similarities and differences of trees and helped plant and care for a live tree in the classroom. They also studied leaves and compared size, shape, texture, and colors of tree leaves. They developed language associated with trees such as circumference, silhouette, height, trunk, etc.
The class took a field trip to the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens last week to wrap up their unit. The students were able to take a guided nature walk in which they observed many trees and plants that are found in California. They also went on a scavenger hunt. Bruno commented about the trip, “I really liked looking at all the plants and trees and of course the rock slide!” Naya noted, “I liked going through the bush maze and seeing the redwood trees because they are so big and so red!” Below are a few photos of their adventures at the Botanic Garden.
