Last Friday the 2nd-5th graders received a visit from the Santa Barbara Symphony Music Van, which is a mobile music studio full of orchestra instruments. The docents for the Music Van, including our very own GSA parent Andy Radford, introduced the students to the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instrument families. The docents demonstrated each instrument, highlighting the variation in sounds. Then came the best part: each student got to try out every instrument!
From delicately playing the violin to blasting the French horn, the students thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experimentation. For the 4th and 5th graders, this experience was the perfect gateway to their field trip to the Symphony’s Concerts for Young People. Thanks, Music Van!
