Last weekend, Garden Street Academy’s Junior State of America (JSA) chapter attended the Fall State Conference in Los Angeles. Our GSA chapter brought a record-breaking delegation of 13 high school students to this convention: Adara, Ben, Eliana, Erick, Gabe, Ian, Jacob, Jessica G., Jesus, Kaori, Max, Miles, and Nick. Throughout the convention, our chapter members participated in lively debates, stimulating discussion, and JSA activism initiatives.
Max was instrumental in working with student leaders to put on the convention which he presided over as Southern California’s Lieutenant Governor, an elected position he won in the spring.
Gabe became the first Garden Street Academy student to win “Best Speaker” in a convention debate, addressing the topic of whether colleges should require letters of recommendation.
See photos below of Max’s speech and Gabe accepting his award. We would like to congratulate our student government members who participated in convention activities for the first time as well as our chapter presidents, Gabe and Adara, for all their hard work.
